Second transfer joins Purdue women's basketball
Mahri Petree, whose older sister, Lasha, played one season for the Boilermakers, joins the roster for the 2024-25 season
The Boilermakers added another transfer on Saturday.
UTEP’s Mahri Petree (UTEP), one of two prospects who were on campus last weekend, announced her commitment to join coach Katie Gearlds’ program. Petree has one year of eligibility remaining.
She joins Destini Lombard, who announced Monday she’s transferring to Purdue after three years at Stephen F. Austin. Like Petree, Lombard has one year of eligibility remaining.
Petree announced her decision on social media.
Purdue announced Lombard’s transfer on Thursday.
The 6-0 Petree is the younger sister of former Boilermaker Lasha Petree, who played one season at Purdue after transferring from Rutgers. Mahri started her career at Bradley and moved to UTEP. She averaged 8.7 points and was 33 of 96 from 3-point range last season.
Purdue announced Petree’s transfer on Monday.
Lombard was the WAC Defensive Player of the Year last season and averaged 10.1 points.
The additions provide a boost of experience to what is expected to be a young but talented team. Lombard and Petree give the Boilermakers more athletic ability on the perimeter, which will help on both ends of the floor.
Granted, the offensive numbers don’t compare to other players in the portal, but Lombard and Petree give the Boilermakers some much-needed veteran experience and will fit into their roles. Purdue is expected to return one senior and two juniors from this past season’s team, and the presence of Lombard and Petree should provide a boost on and off the court.
Reagan Bass, a 6-1 forward who is transferring from Akron, arrived on campus Tuesday night and left Wednesday to avoid missing academic work.
The Boilermakers could add two more transfers to reach the scholarship limit of 15.
