Purdue women's basketball offseason tracker: Taylor Henderson commits
The 5-foot-11 guard played two seasons at UNC Wilmington
What to know about Taylor Henderson, the Boilermakers’ latest transfer commitment, who announced her decision on Friday:
• Played two seasons at UNC Wilmington after suffering an injury in her first year. She was a redshirt sophomore last season. Henderson is from Charlotte and attended Winston Salem Christian School.
• A bigger guard at 5-foot-11, Henderson started 31 of 32 games and averaged 12 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.4 steals in 29.3 minutes. Scored in double figures 22 times and pulled down five or more rebounds in 14 games.
• Started 60 of 61 career games for the Seahawks. Scored in double figures in 42 career games.
• Led UNCW in assists (77), steals (45), and offensive rebounds (59) but also in turnovers (107) and fouls (87). Had fewer turnovers in her second year compared to her first season.
• Ranked fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association with 146 free throw attempts. Shot 63% from the line last season after shooting 76.9% as a redshirt freshman. Attempted 206 free throws in two seasons.
• Scored 13 and 15 points, respectively, against Virginia Tech and North Carolina in the first two games of last season.
• A strength of her game is driving to the basket. Seems to thrive in transition, turning defense into offense.
• Averaged a team-best 14.6 points during the 2023-24 season and scored 20 or more seven times.
• Made just 23% from 3-point range and 35.7% from 2-point range in two seasons.
• Joins Taylor Feldman, Madison Layden-Zay, Kiki Smith and Nya Smith as portal transfers. Purdue’s roster sits at 10 with the addition of Henderson.
Everything is looking up for Purdue Basketball— Katie wanted to get bigger and faster and have guards that could score—- well— I guess wishes do come true. —This team this fall will be entirely different than last year.— We had some players but they just could not put it together —for what ever reason—- it happens.— sometimes you just need to start all over again and I will have to say— Katie didn’t plan it —- but it happened and I will have to say — for the good —It is happening in football and it is happening here—- and I will say— I am excited for next season.—-With the same players— I really thought that the results will be the same— and it probably would have been.——But now—a brand new start for everyone— GO BOILERS !!!
I guess there is always the concern that a player moving up to the big ten they could be getting in over their head— it happens— that is why some players disappear—i would think the physical part is what is different.— the big ten is very rough— so we will see if this player can handle that.— if she can’t I would say she will transfer out again— it’s like a chess game— I hope she is built for it— the first thing that I would say to her—“Welcome to the weight room”— lets get with it .
